A response to concerns about the traditional adversarial cjs. Based on the principle that crime injures victims, the community and offenders, and that responses to crime should involve all of these. Focus is on reintegrating the offender into the community. Community must support offender"s efforts at rehabilitation. All things are interrelated; crime disrupts the harmony that existed prior to its occurrence. Focus is on the human beings closely affected by the crime role of the offender"s family and community. Think of it like a rock being thrown in a lake, restorative justice focuses on all the ripples, even the ones usually overlooked. Holistic understanding: all things are interconnected and actions of individuals must be seen as a part of a larger context. Inclusive decision making: role of the entire community. Violation/ crime seen as a sickness and the focus is on what caused it and how to heal it. Narrow definition of what actions and events are relevant.
