Assume men and women are the same and commit the same crimes for the same reasons: same theories that apply to men must apply to women and gender isn"t a variable when it comes to explaining crime. Generalizability problem: theories apply to men and women, and theories about men must apply to women even though no research was done to prove it. Argument that men and women behave in similar ways and the gender gap isn"t about the behaviour but how society tends to treat them, women are more likely to be let go by the police, judges, etc. This theory acts on the old stereotypes of women: women"s liberation thesis (role of convergence) Suggests that because of women"s liberation and the greater equally between men and women we should be seeing less of an impact of chivalry. Gender roles are not as strict, we should be seeing more of an equalization in the crime rate.
