Male violence against men -> e. g. bar fights, sports, in schools (either as a joke, or bullying), military, police (who inflict violence on men), hazing within institutions. Male violence against women -> e. g. domestic abuse, sexual assault. Male violence against children -> e. g. pedophilia. Male violence is often excused by the fact that they were drunk. Men as a social category -> site of privilege (patriarchy) Men"s life and their experiences of violence is determined by their intersections with class, race, sexuality and other structures; they are circumscribed by these different classes. Hegemonic masculinity in the us and canada -> white, middle class, able-bodied, heterosexual men: anyone who deviated from these aspects were subject to violence. Was established through colonial violence and the subordination and exploitation of aboriginal and black populations. Hegemonic masculinity -> white, middle class, able bodied, heterosexual men. Hegemonic femininity -> white middle class, able bodied, heterosexual women subordinated to hegemonic men.
