CYC 101 Lecture 11: The Systems Context

677 views2 pages

Document Summary

Children & youth live in complex, open systems such as families, schools & communities. In cyc, relationships are the vehicle by which practitioners humanize the often frustrating & impersonal systems context in which they work. Working relationally brings the systems context together with an understanding of human development to more comprehensively assess the resources & strengths that children, youth & families bring to their lives & identify where to intervene & create change. The sum of the whole is greater than its parts. When there is a relationship between 2 or more things & when those things work together, they will have a different effect than applying or analyzing the effect of each thing separately. Together, you & i can change the world, but individually even if we add together what we are doing, we don"t have the same effect. Systems can be as small as a single person or as large as a culture.
