I entered ryerson"s child and youth care program because i have a strong interest in being an elementary school teacher, an interest i have had since i was a child myself. I wanted to teach kids because i loved elementary schools: the teachers, the environment, and how everything was structured. From my time as an elementary school student, i have had the goal of becoming an elementary school teacher because i prefer teaching younger kids. Carol stuart explains that child and youth care practitioners - we are there for the kids for the entire day. When the child is eating or sleeping or raising hell, the child care worker is there for the child. The child care worker gets the opportunity to help the child as their problems occur, not just talking about it afterwards (dennis farn, cited in garfat"s, 1991) stuart (2013, p. 8).
