The ministry of children and youth services is responsible for the legislation under which child welfare services are provided in ontario. Act (c. f. s. a. ) and the associated regulations establish powers and obligations of the. The provision of child welfare services in ontario is divested to the authority of a local children"s aid society. The c. f. s. a. permits the minister to designate native communities to deliver services as a child and family service authority. Each local society is accountable to the ministry and the local community through. The society delivers services as directed by the c. f. s. a. and additionally services that are specific to meet the needs of the community. C. f. s. a. compels agencies to provide 24 hour services to the community. The c. f. s. a. defines a child as a person under the age of 18, however for the purposes of child protection, the act makes children under sixteen eligible for protective services.
