There are two different ways to explain madness: social model and medical model. But now, the two are merging there are morphed theories like psychoanalysis etc. Now we take into consideration the genetics, and chemical imbalance etc. , and combine it with the social understanding of the madness. Street language: crazy, psycho, retard, wack job. Medical language: manic, psychotic, mentally ill, unstable, ocd, ptsd. People first movement john is a man with schizophrenia emphasis on the person by putting them first. Psychiatric survivor because they survive societies that devalue their personal experiences: outcome of a social movement consumer survivor ex-patient mad movement , this does not mean that people have survived their psychiatric experience/symptoms etc. It is not i have survived my psychiatric schizophrenia .
