Week twelve - critique of the service model. Failure to bring people out of poverty. Social safety net provided only happens temporarily. Government plays a limited role in social services. State only interferes to provide basic needs. Income equality - preconditioned to the quality of citizens. Issues within this model in terms of it appears to be idealistic but is rooted in a country that has issues with immigration, citizenship, racism, etc. Many current welfare states exist on a spectrum of liberalism. Canada has had a piecemeal development of our welfare state. Did not exist in full until the 1960s. Considered functioning when they provide three types of activities across the state: Provide unemployment insurance (to the elderly, disabled, literally unemployed, etc. ) Less people meet the requirements for such support. Austerity, neoliberalism and the decline of our welfare state. Further concentrates power and wealth in a few private hands. Enhancing the role of the private sector in modern society.
