Document Summary
Thomas & chess (1977;1984: approach versus with-drawl from new experiences. The type of initial reaction a child has to a new person or a new situation: eventual adaptation to changes. The extent to which approach or with-drawl is modified with time: positivity versus negativity of mood, intensity of emotional reactions, rhythmicity of biological function. Extent to which biological functions, eating, sleep, eliminating etc. , are predictable and regular: persistence in the face of environmental counterforces. The degree to which the child can ignore interruptions: distract-ability (this includes sooth-ability when upset) the extent to which the child changes behaviour when interrupted. Degree of movement, speed of movement, plus degree of other activity: threshold of stimulation necessary for a response.
