Situations: separation/divorce/sole-custody/access, gives birth, does not live with partner 25, death of a parent, military service/deployment, refugee and immigration process. Majority: 85% lead by women, many struggle financially, stuck in low paying jobs, 57/5% increase in male led since 1981 less at risk: extended family support, varying situations, varying degrees of contact with non-custodial parent. Stats challenging in transition family form: 50% of children with live in a single-led family form briefly. Effects on children: much diversity yet generally fare less well than two-parent led peers, complicated/accumulative/situational/narrow research perspective, separation/divorce/remarriage, absence of non-custodial parent loss of a parent, military service. Effects- similar to those of poverty less compliant. More: dependant, anti-social likely to experience school, psychological and behavioural problems likely to be at risk of becoming a young offender, affluent single-led families do not experience same difficulties. Attitudes: terms, more difficult for men, evidence of a shift.
