Document Summary

Choice: more than one combination of goods available. Opportunity cost: in terms of the alternatives forgone, negative slope implies tradeoff. Efficiency: full employment of resources, optimal allocation of resources. Why is there a shift when the line should be unattainable: because there is more resources or new tech/more tech. In these 2 cases the future goods would have a larger shift. A parallel shift is when both the x and y have increased. Whereas a non-parallel shift is when only one has changed. Example of asymmetric shift in ppf: haircuts vs t-shirts. Out of the 2 options t-shirts would have a faster change in tech. Therefore, the t-shirts new tech will change the frontier outward but the haircuts will stay the same, making it a non-parallel shift. For the old ppf: if 1 t-shirt costs then 1 haircut costs . For the new ppf: if 1 t-shirt cost the 1 haircut costs .
