Mesopotamia/mediterranean region, where people developed writing (important in exchange of ideas), mathematics (to build elaborate structures) Attention to cycle of days, planets, start - meant realization of cosmic. Order human beings considering their relationship with nature, environment. They created myths relating humans to their environment (including animal, plant world) Myths mythos means speech and story (myths were originally oral, then written down around 10,000 bc; mythology means a collection of stories. We find myths in art- cave paintings, vases; archaeological sites; written texts.
