Place of large buildings and transit with a large population. Center of business and tourism, cultural distinctions, hubs for health care, education, and economic opportunity. Human being"s shift from a nomadic to sedentary lifestyle. Sedentary: no longer following your food, but in a stationary place like agriculture. This shift meant the need for a reliable source of food, especially for high density cities/villages. This lead to people starting to congregate and work together to farm the land. Need: good land to farm on, fresh water, clean air, irrigation. Need: a house, barn, materials emerging technological development: storage of food (underground). Evolution of social organization: as people stopped moving around in small units, culture and rules began to develop to understand how people work together, how to depend on each other. Agricultural surplus: food that can be stored, distributed, and sold. The class system: people in charge of food and how it is distributed have a lot of power, upper class.
