FSN 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Gabardine, Chenille Fabric, Lurex
Document Summary
Yarns: last week - fibres- smallest unit in textiles production, this week - yarns snd their different properties. Yarn classification: they are classified according to their type which are, filament fibres, staple fibres. Staple yarn: made up of short fibres that are twisted together. Filament fibres/yarns: made up of long continuous strands of fibre, they do not need to be twisted together. Monofilament: mono = 1 single filament fibre acting as a yarn. Tape yarn: produced from extruded polymer films, and have a ribbon like appearance like in olefin. Simple yarns: single yarn, ply yarn, cord yarn. Simple single yarn: unravel the yarn, left with a pile of fibres. Ply yarn: made by twisting 2 or more single yarns together, when unravel a ply yarn, will have a number of single stand-alone yarns, ex, braiding your hair: have 1 braid, but made of multiple parts.
