Parts of the loom and their function. Warp beam - large roller that holds work yarns in parallel position. Harness ho l ds the warp yarns in position with help from heddles, raise and lowers groups of yarn, creates an opening of a shed, that allows the shuttle to cary the weft yarn across the loom. The reed similar to hair comb and keeps the weft yarn separated. Process: shedding, picking, beating up, take up - winding finish product onto beam. Shedding - raising one or more harnesses to create a space (gap) to put the shuttle. Beating up - pushing the yarn into the fabric. Take up - winding the finish fabric on the fabric beam. Weft: cross each other, trailed through the weave doesn"t have to be as strong, lower twist, fills in space. Warp: stronger, lengthwise, more uniformed, higher twist then weft yarns.
