Louis althusser states that ideology is "as set of practices and institutions that sustain an individual"s imaginary relationship to his or her material conditions of existence" The way that we conform as a society. Internalized image of one"s place within all the social dynamics related to power and hierarchy. The lends through which individuals see and understand how they fit in the social world around them. "this is how we do things here and this is how you fit in" No one has to decide what to think or do from scratch in each new situation. How to use and adapt common social practices. Allows people to go bout their lives with an already established purpose and direction. People can act based on ingrained habits and do what seems natural and obvious. Reliance on ingrained, customary ways of seeing and acting. Agreement with the established, prevailing or dominant way of doing things; internalized image.
