Gpi tries to measure environmental costs and benefits, social and economic of anything you"re doing within an economy. Gdp just says economic story, but gpi tells you the whole story. Gpi requires you to be transparent and accountable. As citizens and consumers, that is a good thing because we understand. One of the reasons gpi has not been adopted because it is so transparent. Has not been adopted as an international measure in terms of replacing gdp. As long as you want the gpi figures to increase, you have to move towards sustainability. According to conventional thoughts, as gdp goes up, more jobs are created, the place is wealthier. But environmental issues are not taken into account in the gdp; it is included in the gpi even though it is difficult. Gpi lets you cut down trees but you need to regrow more and ensure that there is enough for the next generation.
