Main form of power for mechanical energy was the waterwheel. A lot of industrialization was happening in europe. Prior to 1970, a third of the north american population was in the zone in the picture. Agglomeration economies: the benefits that come when firms and people locate near one another together in cities and industrial clusters such as infrastructure, labour, suppliers, markets, financial services. Japan was a dominant for a long period of time. North america entered a deep recession in 1974. Reduce tariffs, reduce rules on direct investments, open up your borders is what they decided to do so that the economy fixed itself.
