Level iv: eruption will occur within 48 hours. In 1986, in columbia, nevado del ruiz erupted. Prior to that, scientists advised of no risk but the eruption occurred in the middle of the night, resulting in 22,000 death toll. In 1991, june 12 and june 15, pinatubo erupted with only 500 death toll. Roofs caved in due to the weight of the rain-soaked ash exceeding the load capacity (rain created by the micro-climate (characterized by lightning and heavy rain). The surrounding areas were covered by ashes, described as monochromatic landscape.
