Violence a major part of our past. Diversity of causes terrorism, execuions, batle, refugee problems, concentraion camps. Usa- civil war about 600,000 deaths (deadliest in american history) But- ancillary problems disease killed twice as many union troops as confederate bullets. 4-5% of all human deaths were caused by other people terrorist bombings executed dissidents batleield casualies starvaion among refugees. Mine: is a muniion placed under, on, or near the ground or other surface area. It is designed to be exploded by the presence, proximity or contact of a person or a vehicle. Ani- personnel landmines are designed to incapacitate, injure, or kill one or more person. The un lists 70 countries afected by mines. Many military conlicts are far more dispersed and are far less visible than major conlicts. Results of not just conlicts between states (n and s korea) but internal to a state (rebellion and terrorism) Landmines are an example of this type of perversity.
