Until the 1980s, cornell was owned by the provincial government. Idea was to built a second international airport. Project to build airport got scrapped, government decided to create a public housing complex. Builders were not house builders, instead they"re community builders. Typically, new urbanist design: detached garage in the rear. Some houses in the area are a new urbanist design, and some are conventional design (attached garage in the rear), and some have no garage. From a new urbanist design approach to a conventional design because of resistance from residents to change it. Used to be a raceway, which was removed to create a complex in a new urbanist design. King west village, city of toronto (brownfield site) New urbanism works better in brownfield sites than greenfield sites because in the city there is no need to experiment and propose an alternative vision. It can mimic the existing design without need to seek legitimization.
