GEO 108 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Genetically Modified Organism, Energy Returned On Energy Invested, Food Energy
Document Summary
Coal has very specific conditions on which it can be formed. They are usually found in the northern hemisphere. In general, you need certain conditions in order to grow certain resources such as coffee for example. Coffee can only be grown in warmer and precipitation conditions. Corn however can be grown across the world and doesn"t need certain conditions in order for it to grow. The rules of the state also have a big factor into where resources can be grown. Europe, they don"t allow gmo"s (genetically modified organisms) to be used for farmers. It"s difficult to get the true amount of reserves left in the world when money is at play for the countries. Hydraulic fracturing is a new type of way to pull out oil and is a more cost effective way to extract oil. Tragedy of the commons: paper written in 1968.
