Document Summary
Population studies are important because population size and growth have important implications for economy, environment, and resources. If a population grows too slow and cannot replace itself, the country will have a shortage of labor and will not be able to sustain its economic growth. If a population grows too fast, it puts great pressure on the environment and resources, and the country may not be able to provide the infrastructure, services, and employment to support the population with a high standard of living. Overpopulation is a value judgment reflecting an observation that a territory or environment is not able to support its present population. Measurements of overpopulation can be shortage of food, water, living spaces, and energy. Means of subsistence includes arable land, water, and other necessary resources. If ratio < 1, there are adequate land and subsistence in relation to the population of the area. Limitation of the ratio applied to the mdc.
