Reliability is stated as a probability and is used in two ways: The probability that a product or part operates when activated. The probability that a product or part operates for a given length of time. If two or more events are independent and success is defined as the occurance of all of the events, then the prob. Of success ps is equal to the product of the probabilities of the events occurance. i. e. e, event 1 (p1) ->event 2 (p2) -> event 3 (p3) -> event 4 (p4)etc . Example 1: suppose a room has two lamps, but to have adequate light both lamps must work (success) when turned on. There the product is the lighting system that has two component lamps.
