Chapter 16 getting your work printed and published. Print service provider (psp) provides a plethora of services including scanning, image retouching, and color proofs, as well as traditional and digital printing. Traditional way the psp reproduces your file is an image setter. An image setter is an expensive printer similar to a desktop laser printer. The difference between the two is that it does not print with ink or toner but separations onto slick photographic paper or negative film. Then it would be used to create printing plates but now a day they would use computer to plate technology. It is one of those techniques that you should know about, but not do yourself if you don"t know what you are doing. It prevents gaps like when two colors overlap one knocks out the other. Then the one color is not really printed on top of the other. From readers spreads to printer spreads this is called imposition.
