The purpose of this test is to determine the grain direction and the felt and wire side of the paper. To get the results is to correctly determine the grain directions in order to receive the wire and felt side (ripping the sides of the paper going along the grain direction). Some limitations that could occur would be miscommunication of the grain directions. If you get the wrong grain direction the results for the wire and felt side is going to be difficult to determine or get the wrong results because you have ripped the paper the wrong way. The importance of understanding the grain direction and the wire and felt side of paper is significant because knowing the properties of paper and how the characters can be affected in the press run. For example, grain long paper is preferred for the printing register, while grain short paper has better blanket release.
