Emergence of a colonial society with a relatively diverse population. All the good farm land has been taken up in canada east. Canada west becomes ontario and canada east becomes quebec. French canadians are catholic and british are protestants. There were very few railroads in the maritimes. By the 1850s, best farm lands in southwestern ontario are diversifying into dairy, apples, bacon and wheat. Rough gender division, gender nature of work. They share in rural values, hard work and self sufficiency. Rely on their families because there"s no safety net. More often you would have to buy new land. For women, they would have to find a man for new land. They want to get to the hudson bay company for farmland for the children. Trade with usa slowly surpassing british trade. They cut the canadians loose so they can trade with whoever they want. Architecture was affected by the amount of snow.
