Document Summary

Intelligence is information, but not all information is intelligence. Intelligence communities (channels and analytic structures) are enormously diverse. Diverse interpretations of analysis causes a propensity for disagreement. Must be able to put information into an analytical package. Intelligence gathered on people to understand people, language and culture. Sigint (signals) non-verbal (e. g. , smoke, flags, high beams). Humint (human intelligence) humans responsible for gathering. Problematic because humans are weak and make mistakes. Intelligence cycle: planning and direction, response to action, find out what kind of information is needed, collection, research, discover motives, backgrounds and patterns, analysis (the most important) If you don"t analyze information properly you have nothing: e. g. 9/11 was caught before it happened, but the cia and fbi weren"t able to synthesize the information they had. There was no sharing and no action: consumerism: analysis tailored to who you"re sending the information to.
