We saw the missouri compromise of 1820 set up this line that banned slavery in what used to be the former louisiana purchase territory that used to belong to the french. The compromise made it so that no states north of that line could adopt a slave constitution with the exception of missouri. For northerners, this was seen as a compromise, for southerners this was seen as a rip-off. Now southerners see that slavery can only be extended into two little portions of what is left of america at the time which will become the state of arkansas and the state of oklahoma. Go west which means going into mexico which means starting a war. Mexico: in 1821 is granted independence from spain. In one province of mexico that borders on america called tehas, there is a problem with illegal white protestant immigrants escaping into mexico.
