Transportation and communication were completely in ruin (railways, communication lines, Industrial collapse rebuilding and food sources were in dire straits (factories had been destroyed. Budapest, hungry after the war"s end people lived on about 500 calories a day, About the entire current population of canada was left homeless, city of hamburg alone had million people left homeless. Liberated concentration camp populations left with nowhere to go. Forced labourers, now freed trying to get home. All these displaced populations were roaming europe, or staying in displaced persons camps- the last which did not close till the 1960s. Populations from eastern european, and eastern germany trying to push west to outrun falling. Pows : 2. 5 million german pows taken by soviets (1 million died from circumstances, and the rest were held to rebuild soviet cities- and only released after stalin"s death)
