Class 4 – September 27, 2012 MHR741 Section 021 – Thursday (10AM-1PM) Teams  You need to focus on the process of team-working - you need to focus on the “HOW” not the “WHAT”  How can we really put “we” before “me”  ideal question to ask when working in teams  We make decisions not in isolation, but together  Groups do not have a continuing interaction  Teams rely on each other - have expectations of each other - can hold one another accountable - make mutual decisions where all members influence each other  Individual goals may be in conflict with each other - however, the team can come up with goals that the whole team can agree with  You need to know (as an individual) beforehand how you work in teams - ask yourself: what would you like to learn differently in this team process?  *Skunkworks*: task-oriented, problem-solving kind of teams - temporary, pulled together to fix issues  Self-directed teams may have a leader if they choose - they take on all responsibilities of managers - they need to have their own space to work together  “Informal teams border on groups” –
