Art and crafts movement changed fashion and started to modernize them. Becomes an international movement, being transformed by each country. Rennie mackintosh had graphic design qualities in his architecture. Printing was highly commercial, was only used for advertising. He did this by using a medievalising style. He was not a copier, he modernized medieval styles. A:the top of fashion is haute couture, based in paris. Sold to women as a unique fully customized outfit. 20th century is when this all becomes legislative. Rich women who lived in toronto would have to go to paris and book appointments. Through art nouveau means there is fashion happening on different levels. Would buy fabric and then have it design to your body. Department stores would purchase labels from couturiers and would label their department store made dior designs with the labels.
