Jean harlow was known for her slinky figure. Only wore clothing specially designed to show off her figure without being centred on film, called cinema silks. Frederic"s of hollywood created lingerie for film using bias cut dresses worked very well on film. Chanel worked with hollywood, along with other haute couture designers. Stopped because her designs did not look glamorous on film. Marlene dietrich changed what women could wear, what was acceptable in public. Marlene created a sensation when she played amy jolly wearing a tuxedo. After that she influenced vogue and fashion when vogue showed women wearing tuxedos. More loose, very stiff and high shoulder pads. Cole of californias popularized the two piece swimsuit. Told that women were allowed to show their midriff because they were participating in the war by using the same fibres as the parachutes used in the war. Dress was something controlled by the government in the uk.
