Customs act, 1985: primary federal legislation concerning for the administration and enforcement of laws relating to imports and exports of goods. Export and import permits act, 1985: control lists, permits and certificates, etc. Incorporates wto provisions concerning dumping ad subsidies: helps to protect canadian industry from injury caused by dumping and subsidization of imported goods. Bills of landing: the contract between the shipper and the carrier (name of the shipper, consignee, mode of transportation; description of goods; weight; terms of payment: note: ocean bill of lading can be negotiable! (see lecture 8) Identify the vendor and the purchaser, consignee or importer. Step 2: release of goods: the cbsa makes a decision either to release or to refer the goods.
