Majority of reality tv creates storylines to make it dramatic. Controversy created between characters and relationships aren"t real; for pr. Footage is edited to fit the writers version of the plot; contrived plot. Scenes are shot many times for shock value. Actors eg. will claim they didn"t moan throughout the show; they were sound effects added by the production crew. You never know what the truth is because actors offer opposing opinions. The authors talk about how when you"re on the set watching something, it"s a different exp than when you"re watching at home. The actually recorded exp of participant observers on the scene vs the picture which a video viewer received by way of the tv screen. The contrast between these 2 perspectives allows us to assess the effect of tv in structuring public events. People can be given false imagery because their perspective of the larger political environment is often limited.
