Communities used stories to bring about events to ward off disease, to comfort. The role of the story and story teller is to prevent historical catastrophes from happening again. Prior to the novel: storytellers had an intimate relationship with their audience and the purpose of the story was to share wisdom to prevent historical catastrophes.
