MHR 405 Lecture 1: Week 1-MHR
Document Summary
Hypothesis : formal statement of the expected relationship between two variables. Constructs: cannot be directly observed but can develop measures to dig deeper. Use past research and existing theory to formulate new hypothesis. Research methods: experiments, field surveys, observations ( other field data s/a records) One variable (independent variable) can be manipulated or changed under controlled conditions. The effect on the dependant variable is measured. Random sampling :randomly selecting participants from pop, larger samples are more representative to population. Gives us certainty result is due to our manipulation. -> we get correlation relationship between variables ( x and y) Correlation: two variables are related x is related to y ( x and y change together) Causation: x leads to y x changes first and then causes y to change too. Listening and watching what people say and do (direct/participant observation) pro depth breadness realism, spontaneity.
