Document Summary

Chapter 1 introduction to the field of organizational behaviour: the field of organizational behaviour. Organization behaviour (ob) is the study of what people think, feel and do in and around organizations. It includes the study of how organizations interact with external environments. These topics are studied at multiple levels: individuals, teams and organization. Organizations are groups of people who work interdependently toward some purpose. A key feature of organizations is that they are collective entities consisting of people interacting with one another in an organized way. Another key is that their members have a collective sense of purpose that may not always be well defined or agreed on. Ob theories are used to question our beliefs and assumptions and to adopt more evidence- based models of workplace behaviour. Ob is for everyone! employees need ob knowledge as the work environment increasingly expects us to be self-motivated and work efficiently with coworkers without the need of management interference.
