Document Summary
Chapter 2 individual behaviour, personality, and values: mars model of individual behaviour and performance. Motivation, ability, situation and role perception are the most commonly mentioned direct predictors of individual behaviour and performance. If any of the four factors are low, then the employee would perform the task poorly. Motivation represents the forces within a person that affects their direction, intensity, and persistence of voluntary behaviour. Direction refers to the path along which people steer their effort. Intensity is how much effort you put into what you do. Persistence is how long you drive towards your destination. It"s the natural aptitudes and learned capabilities required to successfully complete a task. Aptitudes (skills) are the natural talents that help employees learn specific task faster and perform them better, Learned capabilities (knowledge) are the skills and knowledge that you currently possess. They"re both the main elements of a concept called competencies, which are characteristics of a person in superior performance.
