MHR 505 Lecture 5: values and culture
Document Summary
Lecture 5: values and culture, and organizational culture. Stable, evaluative beliefs that guide our preferences. Define right/wrong, good/bad - what we ought to do in a situation. Direct our motivation, potentially decisions and behaviour. Some values are more important than others. In some organizations the head managers make the values, but some want the whole company to help make the final decision. Values motivate guide decisions, behaviour, and performance. Fit - do you fit in , does your values match what the companies values are as well. This will ultimately make you work better, compared to if they have different values from you. Awareness (salience) -- values are abstract -- relevance isn"t obvious. Keep workplace conditions (e. g. rewards) consistent with desired values. Help employees be more sensitive to relevance of values in daily work. Need to not only look at how well they are doing, but also how they get there.
