Chapter 7 – Creavity
Evaluang decision outcomes more eecvely: 1 – make sure people evaluang the decision are
dierent from the people who made the decision. 2 – set a public limit where the decision will be
abandoned. 3 – #nd a source of systemac and clear feedback. 4 – allow several people in the
Creavity: development of original ideas that make a socially recognized contribuon. Creavity is used
to assist all stages of team decision making.
The Creave Process
-Preparaon: invesgang the problem/opportunity. Developing knowledge and skills of the
-Incubaon: period of re+ecve thought. We put the problem aside, but our mind is sll thinking
about it in the background. Incubaon does not mean you forget about the problem, low-level
awareness. Incubaon assists Divergent Thinking – reframing a problem in a unique way and
generang dierent approaches to the issue (Velcro example). Contrasts to Convergent thinking
– calculang the convenonally accepted “right answer” to a logical problem. Convergent
thinking does not improve any part of the creave process.
-Illuminaon (insight): experience of suddenly becoming aware of a unique idea.
