Abuse may be verbal, emotional, physical, sexual, financial or take the form of neglect. The intent of the nurse does not justify a misuse of power within the nurse-client relationship: examples of abusive behavior, verbal and emotional, sarcasm, teasing or taunting, swearing, cultural/racial slurs, inappropriate tone of voice, expressing impatience. Physical: hitting, pushing, slapping, shaking, using force, forceful handling, neglect. Denying care ignoring, withholding clothing food, fluid, needed aids/equipment, medx, or communication. Sexual: sexually demeaning, seductive, suggestive, exploitative, derogatory or humiliating behavior, sexual touching, sexual intercourse with a client, sexual relationships with a clients s/o.
