Thursday, October‐07‐10  ‐ Search for a first principle to find the truth  ‐ First principle is what all things are made  ‐ Logic triumphs over emotion!  ‐ Our senses is wrong  ‐ What we see is governed by our emotions so leave them behind and trust in logic  ‐ Beings can be quantified (measured numerically)  ‐ The world is numerical  ‐ Search for disinterested knowledge    5th century philosophers  ‐ Parmenides lived during 450 BC  ‐ Heraclitus of Athens lived during 470 BC  ‐ They started to debate over the nature of existence  ‐ Whether the universe is ever changing or ever still?   ‐ Being is that which has permanence   ‐ Being = substance = permanence  ‐ Fly by night means here today gone tomorrow  ‐ A flash in the pan means something is temporary  ‐ The pyramids of G
