Document Summary

The distinction between us and what belongs to us . The idea that the body of a human belongs to, and is used by, their soul. The claim that self-knowledge is an antidote against corruption. The idea that a soul can know itself by looking at the best part of another soul. Socrates claims that you need self-care if you want to go into politics (politics require self-care) Spends the first half of the dialogue convincing alcibiades this is true. Alcibiades agrees but in history he does not ever actually focus on that (no self-care) At the time we are reading about him, he is not a general. He develops into a bad person, unable to make lasting commitments. First theory: take care of self = take care of belongings. Reputation is strongly connected to what you have possession of the way you take care of your shoes (possession) should be the way you take care of your reputation.
