They don"t want to get too emotionally involved, trying to be fair in principle. Subjective is synonymous with relative in philosophy tends to have a negative connotation. He doesn"t dismiss this view, he dismisses the view that this is the only way of life. For k. there are limitation w/ the objective approach to truth. What is the meaning of life, life, mortality --> these cannot be answered by an objective approach. Guiding question: how and why of life. Makes humans interesting because we aren"t objective machines. Faith is the highest expression of a subjective commitment. Cannot be objectively communicated must have subjective inward approach (faith is then, a private matter) Faith is about belief in god and k. defines god as infinite, radically other, something we cannot wrap our minds around. So for k. god cannot be mastered by rational thinking. Something you go through on your own, there may be churches and institutions.
