For some time now our entire european culture movs itself as toward a catastrophe, w/ a tortured tension, which grows from decade to decade . Various ideologies will battle to fill the vacuum left by the death of god. People cannot bear to tolerate a life w/o purpose. There is no reference of god, same name different disguises. Symptoms in the wake of the death of god . = even though people in the west have become increasingly secular, they continue to behave as if objective morality were self-evident. As if nothing has changed w/ respect to the idea of god (truth) Nietzsche believes his audience doesn"t even believe in god, they are secular, so vast majority of people are susceptible to yearn for truth. Symptoms: levelling, two millennia of christianity conditioned people to believe that everyone is equal. Bc of 2000 years of christianity at that point, there is a sense of human equality.
