Addresses the facts of human desire and happiness which comprises life. Death isn"t evil and life will become intolerable. Death is good because it is the end of suffering in life. Criticizes lucretius saying that in death there is no concern for life (opposite of life) Williams: fear of anything will become non-existent in death, you should not fear death because in death you cannot fear. It is an infinite amount of death that you"re going to have so no matter how early or late you die death is always eternal. Lucretius = doesn"t matter if you die earlier understand death in life"s term, but williams: Diff. bw/ categorical and conditional desires is important. Desires are not conditioned on us being alive desire is conditioned on living therefore if desires are conditioned on living, the cessation of life, the desire will not be satisfied. Countering lucretius what a man doesn"t know won"t hurt him.
