Three explanations for our ideals of human beauty: nature, politics, culture. Etcoff believes that our ideals of human beauty stem from reproductive success. Wolf believes etcoff"s ideology is not true about where our beauty ideas come from. Believes our beauty ideals come from control over women. The idea of the housewife as the best way a woman could be: wife, mother all in the home, suburban housewife ideal. The only fulfilling thing for a woman to do: anything else would be unnatural (going against your nature as a woman for example, getting an education, job, etc. ) Ideology that women thought was true: wasn"t just men who believed this, women themselves bought/accepted this notion. Media images women in ads found the 40s and 50s living out this fulfilling dream": media enforced that this was a natural path, today we reject this notion of the housewife. Something new: women buying into the beauty myth.
