Mass media (three major forms: print, electronic, digital. Mechanical printing press was invented in early 1500s. Many people believe that print is one of the most important technological inventions of all time. Scientists could publish the results of their experiments and share it with other scientists. They could then find errors and correct them and so their knowledge expanded. Improved accuracy of maps as well as number of maps - the accuracy of maps gave. Europe an advantage and allowed them to dominate the majority of the world. Print lead to the rise of nationalism - people identified with their country as they realized there were common languages. 1776 - thomas paine wrote a book called common sense - summarized complaints from american people and everybody read it, preparing them for a revolution. Only became possible with the discovery of electricity. A number of innovations came along in terms of mass media (telegraph)
