Family is a site of power relations (men are breadwinner, can use their label to control women and children) Heterosexual sexual norm (this family is needed for capitalism, part of the economic system because of cheap labour to women, decrease wage for men in some cases) Women also serve as labourers for men, kids, and often overlook themselves in order to satisfy their responsibilities. Women are safe at home taking care of their kids and are not a strain on government spending for their needs in employment services. Neoliberalism promotes the privatization of the reproduction. Most people get citizenship through marriage and birth. Government is interested in controlling citizenship by controlling the family. Indian act that penalized aboriginal women who married outside of their race lost status and vise versa.
